What are the Attributes of God as per Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita, a 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the Indian epic Mahabharata, presents a detailed exposition on the qualities of God. These qualities are revealed primarily through the words of Lord Krishna, who is considered a manifestation of the Supreme God (Bhagavan). Here are some key qualities of God as depicted in the Bhagavad Gita along with references:

Eternal and Unchanging:

"Know that which pervades the entire body is indestructible. No one is able to destroy the imperishable soul." (Chapter 2, Verse 17)

"I am unborn and unchanging. I am the Lord of all living beings. I manifest Myself by controlling My own material energy." (Chapter 4, Verse 6)

Omnipresent (Present Everywhere):

"I am the taste of water, the light of the sun and the moon, the syllable Om in the Vedic mantras; I am the sound in ether and ability in man." (Chapter 7, Verse 8)

"I am the Supersoul, O Arjuna, seated in the hearts of all living entities. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings." (Chapter 10, Verse 20)

Omniscient (All-Knowing):

"I know everything that has happened in the past, all that is happening in the present, and all things that are yet to come." (Chapter 7, Verse 26)

"Neither the hosts of demigods nor the great sages know My origin, for in every respect, I am the source of the demigods and sages." (Chapter 10, Verse 2)

Omnipotent (All-Powerful):

"With a single fragment of Myself, I pervade and support this entire universe." (Chapter 10, Verse 42)

"This entire universe, with all its created beings, is under the control of nature, which is under My control." (Chapter 9, Verse 10)

Creator and Destroyer:

"I am the origin of all creation. Everything emanates from Me." (Chapter 10, Verse 8)

"At the end of the millennium, all material manifestations enter into My nature, and at the beginning of another millennium, by My potency, I create them again." (Chapter 9, Verse 7)

Supreme Controller:

"The Supreme Lord is situated in everyone's heart, O Arjuna, and is directing the wanderings of all living entities." (Chapter 18, Verse 61)

"All the worlds, the demigods, and all living beings are under My control." (Chapter 9, Verse 10)

Embodiment of Dharma (Righteousness):

"To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself appear, millennium after millennium." (Chapter 4, Verse 8)

"I am the strength of the strong, devoid of passion and desire. I am sex life which is not contrary to religious principles." (Chapter 7, Verse 11)

Merciful and Compassionate:

"But those who worship Me with devotion, meditating on My transcendental form, to them I carry what they lack and preserve what they have." (Chapter 9, Verse 22)

"To those who are constantly devoted and who worship Me with love, I give the understanding by which they can come to Me." (Chapter 10, Verse 10)

Immanent and Transcendent:

"I am the Self, O Gudakesha, seated in the hearts of all creatures. I am the beginning, the middle, and the end of all beings." (Chapter 10, Verse 20)

"Although I am unborn and My transcendental body never deteriorates, and although I am the Lord of all living entities, I still appear in every millennium in My original transcendental form." (Chapter 4, Verse 6)

Impartial and Just:

"I envy no one, nor am I partial to anyone. I am equal to all. But whoever renders service unto Me in devotion is a friend, is in Me, and I am also a friend to him." (Chapter 9, Verse 29)

"Those who worship other gods with faith are also worshiping Me, O Arjuna, although in a wrong way." (Chapter 9, Verse 23)

These qualities reflect the multifaceted nature of the Supreme God as described in the Bhagavad Gita, emphasizing God's omnipresence, omnipotence, omniscience, and compassion, among other attributes.
